Gender and employment following graduation

Getting a job after university is very rarely an easy task. Even more so in recent times due to the impact the recession has had on the number of jobs available. It must seem like an impossible task, and not very motivating when you hear in the news that unemployment is rising.
Interesting figures from the Higher Education Statistics Agency released recently suggest Women are more likely to be in work than men six months after they graduate. Approximately three quarters of last summers graduate students responded to the poll which showed seventy percent of women were in either full time of part time work, working unpaid or working whilst continuing further study. This was in comparison to sixty eight percent of the men.
The poll of approximately 222,000 graduates showed 8.1% of all graduates were unemployed six months after graduation in comparison to 5.6% in the previous year.
I know from personal experience the difficulties of finding the right job after graduating. There is so much competition and the great opportunities are unfortunately few and far between.
